Hsin-Su Yu, M.D., Ph.D.

Prof. Hsin-Su Yu, the fourth President, is a renowned dermatologist with an excellent track record of international interaction and collaboration. President Yu graduated from Kaohsiung Medical University (then Kaohsiung Medical College) in 1973, and received his D.M.Sc in 1980 from the University of Tokyo, Japan. He received the prestigious U.S. National Institutes of Health Fogarty Fellowship for conducting specialized research in the Laboratory for Investigative Dermatology at Rockefeller University in New York from 1984 to 1986. President Yu is well known for his research accomplishments in the areas of vitiligo and chronic arsenic poisoning. He received the award for Outstanding Scientist of the National Science Council in 2000-2001 and 2004-2006.

President Yu holds positions in various prestigious professional societies. Among his committee appointment, President Yu has been the president of Taiwanese Dermatological Association from 1985 to 1987 and from 2003 until present, and president of Taiwanese Society for Investigative Dermatology beginning 2006. Internationally, President Yu was a board member of the prestigious Journal of Dermatological Science in 2000 and as a member of the International Advisory Committee of Journal of Dermatology in 2004. Further, President Yu has been a board member of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Journal of Dermatology Science and the Journal of Formosa Medical Association since 2004.

President Yu brought up his ideal of “Teaching Excellence, Innovative Research, Quality Humanism and Social Caring” when he took office. He has strong desire to raise the status of Kaohsiung Medical University into a research-oriented university and has taken up the responsibility of cultivating medical-related students with full-fledged knowledge, skills and competency and then becoming the essential in the health industry all over the world.
